Stretching Study - this is a study that ThinkWell is undertaking in collaboration with the University of Sydney, Australia, the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services, the Spanish Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASPe). Its primary purpose is to establish whether stretching before and after exercise reduces injury, prevents muscle soreness, or makes people feel better (looser). The way this will be done is by asking half those who join the study to stretch before and after their usual exercise and ask the other half not to for a period of 12 weeks. The results reported by the participants in the two groups will then be compared. Those who sign up must be willing to stretch or to not stretch because a computer will decide by chance which group they will join. This type of study is known as a randomised controlled trial. Anyone who is 18 or older and who does vigorous exercise (like playing sport or going to the gym or running) at least once a week can join in. The only requirements are that you should have an email address and internet access so that you can let us know how you are feeling each week and that you have no current sports injury.
